DIY in the stars x My first GIVEAWAY!

My fashion heads, this is a DIY moment. My mother, as much as I hate to admit it at times, has definitely rubbed off on me. When I was younger all I wanted was a doodle bear, some of you may remember this little thing, but if you don't, it was basically a bear that you can draw on and wash it and start over with the drawings. My mother was determined, and not giving in to the department store and paying the "expensive" price tag and therefor, made it her self. She sewed a little bear made of cotton and got me fabric pens from the craft store. Now I don't know how much in the end it saved her, but she was quite proud of herself and I guess also knowing her daughter very well, I only doodle for a about a week, so in the end I guess it was worth it. The DIY gene for sure creeped my way (even though I am adopted). So on the bottom half of my body we have a pair of jeans that I did the DIY deed with and re-created a pair of Current Elliot star jeans, these freaking jeans are a whopping $220 in stores. Now, you'll have to know that I will splurge on some items, but these I thought were absolutely absurd, you'll also know that I do love to find/get a great bargain. So in the back of my creative mind I thought to my self, "I can totally make these". I knew in my closet I already had a pair of nice grey jeans that I could sacrifice for the project. I went to Michaels, bought white craft paint and a blank stencil maker, because for some odd reason they did not have any sort of already made star stencils. I went home created my own star to the size that I liked and got to work. Let me tell you, this was very time consuming to sit there and paint each star on both legs, but now I was the determined one. The end result is exactly what I hoped for and costing a fraction of the price. Now I made these jeans mid summer, but felt the need to bring them into fall for a color blocking/monochromatic outfit.

The rest of the outfit consists of grey tshirt from blookingdales, a varsity jackets from Forever21, Zara necklace and boots, and Aldo sunnies.

Accessory obession

My fashion heads, I'm totally obsessed with this new accessory, its a Veiled Beanie. Now I understand why one of my closest friends is so attached to her hat collection, because all my outfits feel incomplete without this on my head! But this is my new fall obsession and you will probably be seeing it on my fashion HEAD often! By the way, this hat retails for $435 from the original designer Jil Sander, I think she is out of her freakin mind! My mom definitely rubbed off on me in the fact that I always look at pieces and if they are, price wise, out of reach I can some how make it my self. I surfed the web and found a girl who also thought the price was astronomical and did a tutorial on how to make it, so I did a little twist and made it my own. I had the beanie from last year, the original one is a little more slouchy boy friend like, but I worked with with I had. I ordered the netting fabric from Etsy, the shop owners is very nice and will shorten or lengthen the amount of fabric you need (for each veil you would need approx. 2-3 inches larger then the diameter of your head), so depending on how much extra you want. I saw a picture of a fellow blogger on instagram with a different brand on, who wore it more formed to the face and I liked that look better that way. I made mine a little tighter, and so I have room to pull in down as much or as little as I like. Ok, and the best part of this DIY project, I found the way I was explained to make it was really hard because when you put the beanie on your head it wasn't easy to judge where to sew the netting, so I actually sewed on the netting while my hubby was wearing it, he's such a trooper! So if you are lucky enough to have partner to help you out like my husband did, I would recommend that so you get it to lay the way you want it.

I'm going to show in posts to come how versatile my new favorite hat is, different ways to wear it with different outfits for the cold weather to come, dressing it up and down. Like I said, until I'm sick of it, you will see it on me for a little while.

With the outfit below I took full advatage of a rainy dreary day on Long Island and dressed casual with layers because it was quite cold. I love the look of layering a vest and a button up. In this look I layered a faux leather vest from h&m, a plaid shirt from Urban Outfitters (old), faded oxblood (which is the color of the season) pants from guess (old) and my new favorite boots from Steve Madden. This really should have been wore in down town Manhattan, that was the vibe I was getting and giving from this outfit. I'm in love with this outfit from head to toe!

It's Hump day, so let's Arm Party!

My Fashion Heads,

I'm gona make this short and sweet. Jewelry is the icing on the cake for an outfit. As I'm sure a lot of you have seen on other sites and on fellow fashionista's , your outfit can be plain as shit but you can make it sing when adding great pieces from your jewelry box. So let's make this all about the arms, as Leandra Medina or aka The Man Repeller would call it an "arm party", stacking bracelet on bracelet on bracelet. This was a very hot trend this summer and it all went back to summer camp and friendship bracelets.  If you were lucky enough like I was, yeah right,  you were sent to summer camp as a child, the only good thing I ever took back from those days was when the girl councilors would teach us how make friendship bracelets and lanyard, and by the end of the summer your arms were cover in the suckers.  Then summer 2012 came along and some genius brought them back but better then ever and added rhinestones, chains, and studs to them.  So like some of us we went back to our roots of summer camp and started the stacking.  Unfortunately if your not as DIY crafty as some this can get rather expensive when you want to have a full fledged party on up your wrist. So what I went and did was visited websites like Etsy where people sell their handmade goods for reasonable prices. Or what is another great way is to buy larger cuffs with lots of detail that can be a hell of a party on its own or again layered with others.
